The Lee Residence

The Lee Residence was one of the first houses I designed on my own; most of my prior experience had been working under the tutelage of local Architects. This remodel was a little different in that from the very beginning it was decided to demolish the entire house & garage leaving only the foundation & floor framing.

The owners also wanted a three story design to capture the beautiful lake & mountain views. Luckily, the concrete foundation was designed to support the brick veneer allowing us to support the three stories. My job was to create a three bedroom, ‘craftsmen’ style home with a great room concept, 5 fixture master bathroom with a power room on the main and bathrooms for each bedroom. We also needed to locate a mud room with storage for the lake equipment & a shower as well as a third story play room.
We ended up with the following 3,800 sq. ft. house with a 500 sq. ft. detached Garage connected by a covered walkway.

And I LOVE the way the exteriors turned out.

If I recall, the total cost for the design and construction drawings was under 4k; which is an awesome price considering I did all the framing/gravity calculation in house as well as the electrical design.

    The Donogh Residence

    Donogh Site

For the last few weeks I’ve been designing a custom home plan for Scott and Joy Donogh from Donogh Homes. This 18,800 sf site posed some special challenges: On the site was a fairly large underground detention vault for the Windstone Div II plat. The site also had one 26′ and two 10′ drainage easements on the North and East side. A Native-Growth-Protection-Area was not only adjacent to the property, but also made the usable area a really odd shade. After thinking about the project for a while, and looking at Scott’s sketches listing the features they wanted in the home (Great Room concept, 2500sf, 3-4 Bedroom and a 3 Car Garage in a craftsman style home) I worked out a few rough sketches. The view on this site faces to the west, overlooking Greene’s Creek in the NGPA. So the Kitchen, Great Room & Master Bedroom needed to face west.

Next the design was placed into Autodesk Revit in order to get a more ‘finalized’ design for the plans and exteriors. After a few design revisions we ended up with 4 Bedroom, 2.75 baths and 2426sf. The 4th ‘Guest’ Bedroom was added for when the parents came to visit, which is why it opens to the Bathroom on the Upper lever.

After my week vacation on the Norwegian Pearl next week I should be able to wrap everything up and submit for permit.
